day 1:
. . . 60 miles today. set up camp after riding 32 miles with a 20mph crosswind. after it rained and got dark, a state patrol officer kicked me out. I rode another 8 miles in the dark on a wet highway, only my generator light for illumination. . . .

day 2:
. . . only rode 40 miles before my freewheel fell apart. I hitched a ride with a flat bed semi to "Last Chance" Colorado, the next town. I was determined to ride every inch of the way for pride's sake. friends [some of the others that helped the planning of this trip] drove spare parts out to me. . . .

day 3:
. . . the rain has turned to snow. i'm now wearing my poncho, a jean jacket, my wool sweater, a tee shirt then my long under wear, plus sweatpants and long underwear pants. I do have a pair of ski gloves and a wool hat on . . . almost every piece of clothing I brought . . . the map says the next town is 2 more miles. I will have covered 10 miles today [my original goal was 100 miles per day]. . . .

day 4:
as I wake, I realize I had riden 110 miles so far, out of a planned 300!! the weather is beautiful, the birds are singing, and I double my milage in a day!! Crossing the state line, I think about how wonderful life really is.

--- Miscellaneous Notes:

I had planned one motel room each 7 days!!
It rained at least one hour a day, 45 out of 60 days!!
